The flat bed, the improved lighting, the ease of adjusting stitch width, tension, improved feet for free motion quilting - all have made this machine the best ever. Hopefully it is a workhorse, I do marathon sewing. I traded my 6600 for this machine and table last year and have never been sorry. Wow! Last November, I traded my Horizon 7700 (which I had owned for six years) for the 9400. It also focuses on keeping your bobbin area clean and changing the needle after 8 hours of service. I have had my 9400 for a little over a year, bought it when it was first available. I have not had any trouble with it and would recommend it to anyone. My most favorite features are the thread cutter and being able to wind the bobbin without unthreading the machine and the fact I can sew on cruise control. It is easy to learn and use. When I joined the volunteer quilting group in October 2016 ( I had never made a quilt prior to October) I spent a lot of time ripping out what I sewed and became so frustrated with my old sewing machine that I almost quit sewing because it was such a struggle. I have been a Janome fan since I purchased the 6600, which I still consider the finest machine I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot of different machines). I love the extra lights and it lets you know when the bobbin is getting low and lots of stitches. I have had this machine a year, and every time I use it I am blown away by what it can do. Set the motor speed to medium so that the bobbin thread will wind evenly; and avoid stretching which often occurs when wound at the fastest speed. It sew so quiet.
